Antolin Pemech farms in a small village in Chimaltenango, Guatemala.  Antolin only completed elementary school and ended up farming because he could not afford to continue his education.  He married Delfina Quinac, and the couple was blessed with five young children.  Antolin's hard work on the farm generated little profit, and expenses were high.  Soon he realized that there was no way to continue supporting his family and farm on his own.

In 2010, Antolin requested a microloan from Mentors International.  With the loan he rented more land and planted several acres of maize, peas, and beans.  This helped increase profit margins, and their harvest was so successful that they were able to repay the loan two months early.  Delfina also began a small business weaving traditional sashes and dresses, selling them in the local market, helping to supplement Antolin's income and help with expenses.

Antolin and Delfina's dream is to be able to properly feed and educate their children, enabling them to have a better future.  “We are grateful to Mentors International for helping us build a more successful business to provide for our family,” Antolin said.
